Extracting data from legacy files, especially mainframe files, can be very challenging.   These tools assist in reformatting "flat" files with packed decimal and other types of numeric data for use in mainstream PC applications which require text input with limited flexibility.  One type of output always available is tab-delimited text which may be imported to spreadsheets or databases.
